Was it a big mistake?

  • CSK was a terrible hire and definitely a mistake. TJ also handled the fallout exceptionally poorly; he was very arrogant and dismissive of the fans for a long time.

Eventually the fans forced timely termination of CSK. TJ made a good hire although I'd wager that his "committee of one" approach didn't apply with Strong's search. The past few months, fortunately for us the perfect storm hit and we've benefited.

However, let's not kid ourselves into thinking that this has been something masterminded by TJ all along. He's good but he's not a god.

  • The only good day we ever had with Krags as our head coach was the day he left. He was a complete and utter failure in every conceivable category. TJ rallied and gave us a great hire to pull us out of the dumpster. A bad or even mediocre hire following Kragthorpe might have destroyed everything that was built at UofL and left us sitting with UC in the Big East. We are very, very fortunate to be where we are right now. It could have easily gone the other way, with us prepping to play Tulane and ECU every year for the conceivable future.

Devil's advocate. How do you know UL wouldn't have been one of the team's sought by the ACC when they got PITT and Syracuse?

Pittsburgh and Syracuse were easy sells both academically. Rutgers' profile would never fit with the ACC leaving only UConn as a highly respected academic Big East school. The shoe was on the other foot this time (ACC getting raided) around and I think it more about sports than justifying a "natural fit."

The amusing thing is that the new ACC will have six former Big East programs assuming no more expansion.
