  • Couldn't resist, a smattering of comments:

"Instead of whoring us out as B12 cannon fodder, Ollie should have worked with the Big East"
"We have nothing in common and no natural rivalries with anybody in the B12"
"Although the Big East wasn't very good, we were the BIG FISH. We had our opportunity to be like Louisville this year"
"will be lucky to go 10-2 once every 10 years in the Big 12"
"WVU fans like myself who can't afford the 1,000 mile trips."
"Luck made it clear 9 wins isn't enough and we aren't going to make a bowl game. Admit your mistake and get a competent staff in Oliver, or you won't see me buying a ticket for a game under your tenure." (guy who wants to fire Dana)

The last one has nothing to do with Louisville but was just for fun.

I certainly want out, but as Chuck would say, "the grass isn't always greener."

  • The truly sad part is the Big12-2 should have not been all "Holier than thou" and invited us both at the same time so they at least had us to mess with.headslap

But instead they wanted to be SUPER GREEDY and stay at 10 for a few more years will they divide the money by 10 instead of 11 or 12. The honest truth is the wvu is on an island in that conference and outside of football how does wvu get excited about playing iowa st./texas tech in basketball. Knowing that their fanbase will RARELY travel to those games.shrug

  • For fun, what would our record be if it was us and we played WVU's Big XII schedule? I think we would've seen several close shootouts. All 5 of the teams they have played are capable of beating us, with Baylor being the worst of them. Still, Baylor has the #1 passing offense in the country.

  • Using WVU as lab rats does have it's benefits. LOL

    katiecard

  • Maybe we could offer them a 2 & 1. 2 Games here, so there's a game that their poor fans can travel to and 1 game there, so we can beat them at their place once again.

    Go CARDS!!!!!

  • I think what we are seeing with WVU is what many of us "basketball first" fans thought might happen to us if it were our team who got the call instead of them. The Big East is looking better and better all the time as far as I'm concerned. The money be damned.

Guys it's not about the money; conference realignment is, but a school in our position isn't changing conferences for money....We're changing conferences because the Big East is being phased out of the National Championship landscape and will never sniff one of the four playoff spots....
It's about keeping the football program viable on the national scale and being able to keep our coach....As much as I don't necessarily like having to potentially go to the BIGXII, we must for those reasons alone....GO CARDS!!!!!

  • Never say never.

Plus, if by some freak of Nature - like next year - should we actually BE in one of the 4 spots, the following years will be easier.

The answer is - Yes - we can do that from here, IMO only.

And we are capable of beating all 5. There is no super team in the B12 this season. I'd luv to have had the chance to see how we stack up.

But many of the WVU criticisms re: distance and rivalries are true, which is why I hope the acc wakes up.

And why does it matter if we are "phased out of the NC landscape" and fail to "stay viable on the national scale"?

No, we need in the Big 12 because the CARDS need a chance. If we were in the Big 12, no one would be taking our coach, because unlike Dana, CCS can build a strong team able to win that league. If CCS was recruiting to the Big 12 instead of the big East, we would have locked up the Triunity trio and be working on some 4 and 5 star studs from Florida.

  • Whether it's money or a chance to make it to the National Championship, getting into the Big 12 would be a step up from the Big East. More money for our athletic department and more national recognition from all the pundits and naysayers out there in lala land. Just because a few WVU fans are complaining about the move to the Big 12, I would in a HEART BEAT have taken their spot if the opportunity had presented itself.

Sounds like the same manure being shoveled during our C-USA days. Recruits would fall in line and coaches would stay here. All wishful thinking.

Enlighten me, please. You don't think CCS could recruit even better in the Big 12 than he can in the Big East? I am not saying Strong is leaving now, its just there would be a lot less chatter about it, if we were not in the Big East. I have said many times CCS is not going anywhere this year.

  • OK, no offense but I just read anxiety about Charlie. I'm tired of it.

Sure, I guess it would be cool being in the Big 12. Personally, providing we get a reasonable contract with the TV arseholes, I really don't much care.

He's already built something special as hell. Imagine what's to come. In other places, it's expected or they fire your ass and make up stories and trash you for all sorts of pathetic reasons. He could do worse than leave a deep and successful brand at Louisville.

  • Personally I like being the new "Big Fish" in the conference. We are three seasons removed from obscurity and now we are ranked in the Top 10. Give it a few years to play out before jumping off the bridge. Florida State built a Nationally championship program beating pathetic ACC teams back in the 80's and 90's. It can still be done today. Charlie and staff are here to do just that. Some of you act like little school girls.

Teams will have up and down years. WVU's defense is horrible this year. But if those teams they had with White/Slaton had been in the Big 12 they would have been fine. Just like the team we had with Brohm and Bush. I think we would be competitive this year but we would take some lumps. But I think we could dish out a little, too. I guess the big question would be how long can you sustain your program at that high a level without dropping off, losing a coach and hiring a dud, or whatever. If Kansas State can build a program that is a Big 12 elite, so can WVU and UL.

This... we are losing recruits because of the bashing of our conference.. no chance to play in a national championship game, etc....

Maybe this a good warning for us, as well..... once Boise, UCF, SDSU and Houston are figured in, I think the Big East's power ranking is higher than the ACC. It may still be higher, even this year, before they enter.

I don't remember when FSU went to the ACC , but they started building their brand before the ACC back in the late 60's they played the Big Dogs in the SEC ,yes back then they took some risks and played schools who might beat them once in a while , They jumped up and tied Bama (I think) at Bama when the Bear was God and they were on their way.

  • The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Pitt and Cuse will probably see this as well next year. The Big East that got blown up was primed to be one helluva a conference. Too bad.
