Question: Petrino / Strong

  • snickerling said...

    Please do go on...

Don't forget to add ... Left minutes after telling us he was staying ... left that job half-way through the season ... spent most of his last two seasons here pursuing other jobs through secret meetings on airport tarmacs ...

He may come, but he won't stay. Again.

While this is true assuming that CCS leaves what would prevent his replacement (say Kirby Smart or Kliff Kingsbury) from doing the same thing?

This thread can't be serious. loco I really don't even know where to begin. Are you people serious with this hire Bobby Petrino crap?

I would fire charlie in a heartbeat for a contract that guarenteed 5 years of Petrino-ball. I have just the contract $750K a yr, $25MM buyout, bonus at the end of year 5 of $20MM.

    41-9 ... lost one home game in 4 seasons ... beat teams 70-7 ... 4-0 v uk ... 4 points away from a national title ... should I go on?

and this go around we could make his contract absurdly one sided so he couldn't leave if he tried

Besides all that he hated uk almost as much as me. lol

  • If Strong wants to stay, I welcome Coach Strong and his staff to do just that.

If he wants to leave and Petrino wants another run with UofL, I'd welcome that, too.

Either way, we're positioned for a national championship run, some major bowl appearances, and marquee games in a big-time conference. Either way, UofL wins.

Now more than ever it should be apparent how big of a business college athletics is and will continue to be. My perspective comes purely from a business perspective. We have to leverage the CAF assets we have as best we can to get the best results possible in order to ensure the program's long-term success -- and I'm talking decades after Jurich retires.

Yes. Petrino punched this program right in the face, kicked it in the stomach, whatever other bodily harm you can describe. Why would you want to go back to that. I can't comprehend why anyone would want him back on campus. He wounded the program the last time. He might kill it this time if he returned.

Spot on. LOL Until we grow our fanbase, our coaches are going to look for greener pastures. What better way to grow our fanbase even more by bringing in a controversial WINNER in Bobby Petrino? Not to mention, if he came back to Louisville, he probably stays here a while longer than his previous stint. From what I understand, his wife (in particular) really likes Louisville.

  • See, i understand that there are many "better" jobs than the ul job out there, but I do not believe that this means ul is destined for eternity to have its coaches poached by bigger name programs. I believe there are many things about the ul job that rival any other position out there. Very wealthy athletic department, AD who will pay a top coach whatever he wants and give him whatever resources he wants. The support city-wide is there. There are coaches out there who want to build a legacy, like bill Snyder did at KSU, and who will pass up other jobs to do it. Denny Crum became that coach for UL basketball and look at us now.

UL just needs the continuity for longer than the 4 years that we seem to be limited to with every good coach. I don't know if strong will be that man. I believed everything he said prior to this week and legitimately thought he would be. He may be still. No one really knows what the hell is going on.

But if it isn't strong and he leaves, then we move to the next one to see if that guy is the one...maybe butch jones or whoever. If you're Jurich, you do not stop looking for a more committed coach because until we get one, we will be stuck in that fringe top 30 range forever rather than taking the next step.

And you certainly don't hire a guy like petrino, who you can never, ever believe and who you know damned well will leave at the first opportunity. That truly is selling your soul to the devil.
