Question: Petrino / Strong

  • Serious question here;

    How can a fan rip Strong for lying and want him to leave and then say they want Bobby Petrino back? One guy is still the coach at UL and the other isn't. Shouldn't we be inclined to stick with our guy until he proves he's NOT our guy? If you are mad because you believe Strong lied about flirting with other jobs, how can you be OK with Petrino?

    I'm not asking to start an argument or whatever. Just curious as to what I'm missing.

    Who has stayed here? Ever? Nobody. Howard only stayed 9 years and we named a freakin' building after him. 5 years should warrant a statue. In my lifetime (I'm almost 30) I've seen 5 UofL coaches hired. That's an average of one every five to six years.

    It's apparent we will be restocking our coaching cupboard every few years--why not win as much as you can in those few years? If Bobby comes he's likely to be gone by 2015. But so is Kirby Smart, Hugh Freeze, or any other name out there.

If someone poses the question to me, then yes I'd say I'd take him back. But, I'm not ready to lynch Charlie like a lot of folks around here seem to be.

  • I want to reiterate that I want Charlie and his staff back. For next year, for the next 10 years, for life if possible.

    But if Charlie was to leave, there is only one or two names out there that I would consider a homerun, and Bobby P is one of them. You don't pass up on coaching talent like that, you just don't.

    See, I understand that and I suppose that's why I'm having trouble with people pining for Petrino and chomping at the bit to dump Strong. It doesn't make sense.

    Everyone who has been on the board the last two days knows some of us are pissed about what he said at the PC about the fans, but hell, he's still our coach and it's just one of those unfortunate things. Pitino has said some similar stuff and you just move on. It's the UL family. Sometimes we get pissed at each other, but we all want the best for UL and I'm sure Charlie Strong does. If he leaves, well, then he's not a part of the family moving forward and that will be that.

    Petrino is a great coach, but I'd rather have the guy who IS our coach.

  • This entire post is a joke. Petrino is a great coach and a total piece of crap. He would sit on the sidelines and look up into empty seats and shake his head in disgust. There is no way he comes back here and there is no way we should try and get him here.

  • Got to think Petrino has burned enough bridges and made enough trouble that a return here would be his last stop. It sure seemed like he was staying put at Arkansas until he got caught fooling around.

    He may not have been happy about empty seats at times, but we've got more butts in the stands now than we did back then. And for as much crap as he took for not having a personality, at least he knew not to make negative comments about any fans except for UK's.

    That's where you are wrong. If we'd take Petrino back after what he did to us, after 1-3 years of success here with *moderately good behavior (meaning, he didn't commit a crime or lie beyond the realms of acceptable for a DI football coach), you can bet your ass he'd be taking a job at an SEC school. Please understand that Petrino is a sociopath and a liar to the core. You do not make that mistake again if you are jurich.

    An earlier poster made a good point...if they are successful here, they leave. IMO there are about 30 jobs better than the Louisville job and several jobs that are lateral moves. Since we are close to that top 30 our coaches will get poached. The only coach that will stay here is a coach no one else wants, and that isn't what we want either.

    They all leave, its just a matter of whether they are kissing us while they are ph**king us on the way out the door.

    I hope that CCS stays here as long as he is driven to stay here. If he is leaving I think it will be hard for him. I think he is a very genuine person but offers like these don't come along often and he is the other side of 50.

    Also, can someone supply a link where Strong has lied about something? People act as if he leaves, he's doing the same thing Petrino did. How can anyone really think this?
