I think that has more to do with his first year taking over from Kragethorpe then the following year replacing 20+ seniors. After Strong essentially had to start fresh the first 2 seasons, this year there should be a lot of carry over and we will have some depth this season something that has been lacking in the past.
^^ This ^^
Stand Strong! GO CARDS!!!
Random thought, but the UK fan posting on this thread, does he know that Western Kentucky is ranked higher than UK in football??? And he actually thinks that they are gonna beat Louisville??? In the words of Chad Johnson "child please".
Well that's Bull Crap.. Starters are as followed..
Larry Warford.. Sr. Matt Smith.. Sr. Kevin Mitchell.. Jr Darrian Miller.. True Sophmore., Zach West.. RS Freshmen.. 3 of 5 have started games, Kevin was a prime back up.
It's a Mike Summers coached o-line.
Just telling you what words I heard come out of his mouth when I personally asked him the questions a few weeks ago.
"The longer I live the more I am convinced the Beatles had the greatest single impact on western culture since Jesus Christ." -me
I'm not the least bit concerned about uk's starting offensive line. They do have one of the best coaches in college football in my opinion, but I don't think the talent is there. They were hyped up last preseason and they couldn't keep the defensive line out of the backfield or open any holes versus Louisville last year and by all accounts, Louisville's D Line will be deeper and better this season. There was no need to blitz versus uk last season and I don't see anything changing this year.
I feel bad for Towles because Joker has ruined every QB he's had since he's been the head coach. What exactly has he done offensively without Woodson, Burton, or Cobb? He ran off a better QB than they have on the roster right now and Newton has regressed every season. Perhaps they can get another WR to play QB? It worked against UT last year! They can't catch the ball, so I can understand why they would try it. It's pointless to have the players on the field if they can't do anything productive!
While I predict a Louisville win, I think it will be a sloppy, ball control type game. The guy that said to bet the over is clearly outta his mind and doesn't know anything about either team this year! Since it will be so sloppy, points will be at a premium and although I think Louisville wins by two TDs, I predict the final score to be 24-10 with uk struggling to move the ball at all!

This is a little off topic, but below I copied and pasted what was posted on the cats illustrated football board in a thread discussing our top 25 ranking. Excuse me while I LOL
quit comparing the two sports. Were a lot closer to their talent in football than they are ours in basketball.
I just went over to their site. LMAO! It's all falling into place. They sound so angry. They honestly cant understand why they are 2 TD underdogs. They bring up our early losses to FIU and Marshall at the beginning of the season under Mike Sanford. PERFECT! It just isnt as fun when they actually expect to lose. I took all kinds of screen shots! Cant wait!
After a little woo-sawing and factoring in other things (rivalry game, slow starts under Charlie) I think I'm ready to dial my prediction down a little bit. I'll go 26-10 UofL.
Surprise safety goes to... Marcus Smith. I think he's gonna end up having a pretty solid year this year.
If you understood what a MIRACLE Coach Strong had to do in his first two seasons here more people would understand why those first two years were "slow starts".
It was all the "previous guys" crap that Coach had to clean up and it's finally MOSTLY Clean!! With Next Year being the True JUMP OFF SEASON!!!
We are finally back were The University Of Louisville belongs,.......... in the same conversations with the Big Dogs!
but that's just my two cents.
The best defense is a great offense, someone said. Given that, if the offense is sharp, controls the ball, runs and passes well, doesn't turn it over, and scores, then the game is not close. If the offense struggles, then we win a close one with great defense. It would bode well for the hype, the rankings, if the former happens. Kentucky is the worst FBS team on the schedule, so we need to come out and really play well, but it is the first game and their backs are against the wall. I'll predict a sharp and effective offense, and a punishing defense, and a 35-10 game. Go Cards.
Why would a uk fan think that the talent level is closer in football? Louisville has more talent in both sports this season!!! Football isn't close! They can claim star rankings and all that for recruiting classes, but the coaching Louisville's kids have received trumps what the kids in Lex have gotten for the past two seasons. Joker has ran off the best QB he had and like I've said multiple times, Newton has gotten worse every year! They do not have an advantage at any position on the field! Well, we are breaking in a new kicker and punter this season, so the jury is out on those two!!! LMAO! I won't visit their site, but I can imagine how butt-hurt they are about the AP ranking! It's like they didn't see it coming! So Louisville lost to FIU and Marshall last year? Both those teams would have beaten uk last season!!! Someone already mentioned that our offense was struggling with Sanford at the controls and Benevides didn't play vs FIU.
Think I am staying with my first thought when someone asked me few weeks back...
pUKe - 6
Cards - 27
This is based on UK at least having a field goal kicker that can boot a couple 40 yard FG's. I think if our kicking game and blocking is good throughout the game I don't see UK getting over midfield many times. 3 total touchdowns for the Cards and a couple field goals as well. CCS is way to classy to run up the score to much and most all of the 4th quarter with the game in hand and a win on the way he runs runs runs the ball to burn clock.

Would it not ROCK to see a total beat down and at the end of the game after us being on the 1 yard line with 30 sec left Bridgewater takes a knee to end the game. Then CCS gets interviewed right after and he throws out the "we just gave them what they wanted" line!! I know CCS is way to classy to do this like Petrino did that time, but it would be a total classic!
Exactly, why do UKantsuckanyworse brag about playing quality teams when they lose to them every year, who wants that??? its not an excuse, it simply means you dont belong. secondly our oline last year sucked ass at the beginning...yes we all now, ok they improved drastically over the season...ok, then as freshman do often, they got over excited, made stupid mistakes in the bowl game because of the moment that they had never experienced...but overall, they got so much better, then you have to consider our dline which honestly rattled newton the whole game and they were super young, now we have more experience, depth to swap in and out to keep em going fast, and they are even better this year, compare that to UsucKsobadly replacing 3 olineman, what do you think is going to happen when our D gets after them this year, it will be worse then our young lineman last year, givin that larod king is tall and very talented, and CCS will be putting in the second team in the 4th, king will maybe score on whatever freshman DB that is in there, and possibly get a field goal. having said that, our offense will be pushing down the field all night and their D will be on the field all night, i really dont see CCS running it up, but he wont let this score be remotely close...over 30 points, UsucKworsethenanybody...maybe 10 if their really lucky...2 picks guaranteed if they come out throwing to catch up.
UL 35 UK 14. UL 21-7 at the half with the game never in doubt in the second half. Teddy tosses for 2 td's, UK runs for 1 late, Parker goes for 100+ yds and a td.
If you arent down with that, I got two words for ya!!!!
I hope our defense scores a couple of touchdowns. That would really be exciting for us and demoralizing for UK. Go Cards!
I predict that UK will be
I have tried to objectively look at both teams position by position, unit by unit, and I'm not seeing how UofL shouldn't be two TDs better. How anyone can do so and say UK has an equal footing in this game is simply not being objective.
Yes, UK appeared to have many advantages last year as well, and they lost; but circumstances this year are far different with Louisville returning far more than the UK team they beat a year ago.
I keep reading how Newton was to blame for last season's loss by UK, yet didn't he have his best game statistically ever if I'm not mistaken? I could swear I remember him exceeding his previous yardage high total for a game in like the first half. Maybe I'm wrong there, but I have a hard time thinking his performance was the reason.
The ONLY way UK wins on 9/2 is much like they did in 'you-know-who's' first game versus UK- a lot of help via turnovers. It will also help if a couple of the newcomers that do have talent break off a couple big plays; the 'x-factors' I keep hearing about.
Having said that, I am going to stick with my earlier feeling that UK puts up a fight for 2-1/2 quarters, but just doesn't have the manpower to keep up-
BCS win, Women's Final 4/National runner-up, Men's Final 4/National title, trip to College World Series. Excellence like no other before.
I agree. This shouldn't really be close.
I watched last year's game again recently, and while Newton was "okay," (which was great for him), their O-Line was horrendous. They had somethign like either 3 or 4 starters out that game on the O-line, and they got ZERO push against our front. It's almost cliche to say this game is won on the gorund every eyar, but it is. They had 35 TOTAL rushing yards in the game, with the ONLY rush over 10 yards coming on a scramble by Morgan Newton.
We basically had a bunch of guys up to stop the run and DARED them to pass, and they still weren't exactly marching up the field through the air. They had NEGATIVE total yards in the 3rd quarter, and only 1 first down.
Even so, with 2:30 left, they were on our 18 yard line with a chance to tie and Newton couldn't deliver.
But NONE OF THAT is what reall matters. We got better....MUCH better as the season progressed. Our yougnsters were getting their feet wet vs. UK and still beat them at their place. UK didn't. Their QB play was pretty much as good as it got in that game. Their lien was never particularly good. They never were a decent rushing team.
All aspects of our team improved, as a young but talented team should. We beat them last year because we had better talent, despite the lack of experience. This year, we have better talent AND more experience at most positions than them. We will beat them solidly and convincingly in this game. Even if CCS keeps it from getting compeltley out of hand due to his friendship with joker, there will never be any doubt who is in control of this game.
27-10 good guys, but we will just push them around the entire game.
One thing I don't understand is all the UK fans act like they finished their season well. They lost by 9 at Georgia who played without their top two running backs and beat one of the worst Tennessee teams in recent memory at home by a lousy field goal.
And they act like they have a bunch of world beaters coming back. They bring back everyone from a WR unit that was one of the worst in the country and had a bad case of butterfingers. They start a QB with a whopping 4 career starts with 4 TDs and 4 INTs with a sub 55% completion percentage who can't run. Both of their RBs gained less than 30 yards apiece against us last year. Their secondary has more holes than a sponge. Their defense loses its top two tacklers. Their DL returns their starters from a squad that got blown off the line of scrimmage every down against our terrible OL last year. Their only player that looked good against us was Morgan Newton and he won't sniff the field.
They brag about their schedule but their SOS was only 11 spots higher than ours. They played a mix of good and terrible teams while we played a bunch of average teams.
My question is, why do UK fans think they're going to be any good this year and why do they think we're a bunch of pushovers?
To be fair, I haven't met a single UK fan who thinks that they will win the game, let alone be good this year.
They're going to stink. Their DLine may be okay, though. They definitely got much better as the season progressed. They had a first time starter at one end, Rumph, who was a sophmore, and Cobble who hado nly played in one game before last year, and they were learning to play the 3-4 defense. We ran against them, but they got much better as the year went on.
Their O-Line was horrid against us and all year. Just beyond bad. I know they had a ton of injuries early on, but even when they were all healthy by year's end, they were still a bad unit who was jsut dominated by our young (and returning) defensive front that will probably have a repeat performance of shutting down their RBs. Their freshman (Clemens?) looked good before his injury, but I don't know how much their running troubles were the result of bad RBs, their terrible line, their complete lack of a passing game that let teams stack the box against them, or likely all of the above. King was a decent receiver, but sicne he was the ONLY decent receiver, other teams jsut keyed on him and dared Newton to throw underneath or to the butterfingers receivers. Theyhad better hope they have some freshmen who can run and catch, because it isn't going to be better for them otherwise. I've rarely seen an FBS team with so few "playmakers" at WR as UK last year. Just terrible.
The bottom line is that we beat them, we got better as the year went on, and and we lost fewer difference makers than they did. We will beat them pretty handily. If not, we're in for a disappointing season, because they're not winning more than 3-4 games.

There is a reason UK gave back over 2,000 tickets... They know better. Cats can eat birds, but not when said birds are perched on a moving TRAIN. As such, cats need to stay the f&?# off the tracks.
We win by 2TDs+ because we will have to take our foot off the gas at the end to keep the Frankfort (read: UK-leaning) congressmen from cutting funding :-). As a result, a UK pride score at the end may get the final margin down to 17 or so.
I am TheContractor from TOS2. Accept no substitutes...
UK will NOT be making a T-shirt after this game.
