Just read his FB. I think he is really down in the dumps about running 3rd string on the current depth chart. He pretty much says he is done and his heart isn't in it anymore. I hope this is not true. He is a key member of the team and has too much talent and ability to waste. Playing at this level is a privilege for few. I hope Butler realizes it and sticks it out. Nate Nord is a great example of someone that came close to giving up, but chose to stay and work hard. He is starting this year and expected to be a key contributor. Don't give up BJ, better days are ahead!
Man, I hope he doesn't give up!
My little brother almost quit track a couple years ago from being g burned out, and not doing like he wanted. He stuck with it, ended up working harder, and was All-American for the past 3 years straight!
Facebook and Twitter should not be used by players. It's a stupid way for players to say things which they may later regret once the emotional outburst has run its course. Nothing good comes of their use by players... that I can think of.
Anyway, I hope BJ is with us for a long time and going nowhere.
I too think it may just be the initial disappointment coming out. I agree RedBirdBath, Facebook and Twitter are terrible outlets for people to vent. I hope that after the initial disappointment sinks in, he will strap up and bring it.
He has too much talent to not see the field. It's a long season.
Yeah, depth chart can vary significantly from week-to-week! Way too much is put into spring depth chart and 1st game depth chart.
He is upset he is not in the two deep vs uk, because all the DEs will be padding thier sack totals that day.
You don't quit, you come out fighting even harder. You can get in the lineup bring it and make the most of every chance you get and they will find a spot for you.

its not like we wont have injuries, lord knows somebody will go down, surely he will be there somewhere sometime
You are soooooooooo right about FB and twitter and venting. Some people have no idea what it means to put something out in cyberspace.

I surely hope he doesn't give it up but college football at a place like UofL for these coaches is extremely challenging and if his heart isn't in it it's not something you just turn back on. I think they put in more time and work and give up more than we'll ever know. I hope he sticks it out but if he's not in it, words of encouragement would probably fall on deaf ears. He's a great talent and was a great signing.
Stuff like this really makes me shake my head. Mr. Butler, if you are reading this, STAY THE COURSE! Why in the world would you quit now? You have already done all of the hard work to prepare yourself to play. Don't pay attention to the depth chart, which is nothing but a fluid document that can change very quickly. You are on campus, in shape and ready to play. You are going to get an opportunity. Quitting won't ever help you in anything you do. Play harder and persevere.
AKA Big Game James
The latest from TOS is that he plans to stick with it. I hope this is true. We will definitely need him this fall.
BJ needs to collect his emotions, get it together, and bring it! We need him for sure and he needs UofL. He is on the train and needs to throw some coal in the boiler.
I hope he gets his head on straight. He came in here as a manchild on a team that was extremely thin up front so he got a ton of snaps. I dont know if it was the injuries or that he didnt work hard enough but he's been passed up. But with his abilities, if he works his ass off, he can find himself being a major contributor and getting a shot in the league. I always thought maybe he should have played MLB.
First, BJ DO NOT QUIT. Trust me you'll regret it for the rest of your life. This is an experience that you can tell your grandkids about and we love all of our former Cards, past and present. Secondly, if someone, with the talent of BJ Butler is running third string, that has to tell about the level of talent and coaching that this staff is putting into place.
Stick with it, BJ. You are way too good not to finish. You're cheating yourself if you quit now. You were very good coming in and will be GREAT coming out.
