Big East divisions:

  • Article is about the debate over the 14th team, but there is a note in there about how the divisions are being laid out:

    But until Navy and a 14th member are on board, Aresco said Thursday that the league would be split into two six-team divisions, most likely East and West. The Big East will hold a conference championship game next season at the site of the league's top team based on best record or highest BCS ranking.

    When the Big East grows to 14, league officials already have had discussions how to split the divisions. The most popular 14-team model, sources said, would be "Red" and "Blue" divisions that are non-geographic.

    The Red Division would consist of Louisville, South Florida, Connecticut, San Diego State, SMU, Navy and Memphis. The Blue Division: Cincinnati, Central Florida, Rutgers, Boise State, Houston, Temple and the 14th team.

    Each team would play six league games within its division and two games against the other division, including one permanent cross-division rival game. Those annual cross-division matchups would be: Louisville-Cincinnati; USF-UCF; UConn-Rutgers; San Diego State-Boise State; SMU-Houston; Navy-Temple and Memphis vs. the 14th team.

    Those division lineups also could be tweaked, if necessary, to appease the Big East's future TV partners and increase the worth of the media rights deal.

    I will ALWAYS root for my Cards til I cannot function as a sentient being....but God that's depressing.....sorry but its how I feel. The BEast before this expansion crap was a good conference in fball more than it got credit for.

  • Instead of Red & Blue color coded divisions I think the Big East should create names like the Big Ten did. But instead of "Leaders & Legends" they should be: "Disrespected & Undervalued"

  • So assuming they go that direction in a twelve team model for 2013 we're looking at a schedule of:

    Ohio
    FIU
    Kentucky
    USF
    UConn
    San Diego St
    SMU
    Memphis
    Cincinnati

    Plus one OOC game that has yet to be announced as far as I know (likely FCS?)
    Plus two from other BE division

    Hmmmm.

  • I'm not sure that the FIU series will continue next season. I am pretty sure we have Marshall instead of FIU. (I'll have to check)

    I would bet we would get Rutgers & Houston leaving a Big East Championship match-up of Boise/Louisville possible.

    As for the final game I would hope Jurich would try and get a solid BCS conference team.

  • Pretty sure we play FIU at home next year. It was a 2 for 1 three year series. I don't think we're playing Marshall next year.

  • Why wouldn't they put you guys in the same division as Cinn. and make Boise St. your permanent game from the other division? Seems the most attractive game for this league is the UL vs Boise matchup, its a game I would like to see and I know cards fan want to see every year. You could even have the rematch in the conference title game, which would make it even more interesting.
