If we become one dimensional against Florida Teddy will be in the hot tub the whole off season. We have to run the football to keep the defense honest. Now that does not mean we should run the exact same run play on every 1st down. It needs to be mixed, but we have to run even if it isn't very productive.
For us to win we have to score plan and simple. We got a future legitimate top draft pick in Teddy Bridgewater. Put the ball in his hands and watch dreams come true. If we light their defense up from the start, we'll be able to run whenever we want later in the game.
Yes, of course, we need to run the ball. But there are ways to get the running game going without running it off tackle on EVERY first down when the defense knows what you're going to do and has 8 in the box. If we think we're just going to line up and run it down Florida's throats we're delusional. This is Florida, not South Florida.
What you CAN do is use the passing game to set up the run. Watch the New England Patriots. They have a pass first system, and they sustain drives and run the ball when they have an advantage. The Giants won the Super Bowl last year doing this. Hell, even the freaking Redskins, with a rookie dual-threat QB, come out throwing to set up their run. This isn't 1985.
