I've now seen both Strong and Benavides bring up competing for a National Title this year. Now first, we'd need to catch a whole lot of breaks to even get to the title game. Of course running the table at 12-0 is required, but we'd need a lot of help. Big East foes need to get some big out of conference wins, and a few teams need to emerge from the pack and get into the top-25. A bunch of 4-3 league records waters the whole league down. Also, we'd likely need none of the power leagues to have more than 1 team at 1-loss or undefeated. Even so, I think we're still one year away from having a roster that can reasonably expect to beat the likes of Alabama or LSU. Not saying it can't be done, but we'll have a much better chance to match up next season with all the talent slated to return. However, I do absolutely love that the staff and players aren't afraid to at least throw that out there as a goal. Why not think big? If anything, this season can set up a run for a national title in 2013.
I love what the staff is talking. Its exactly what they need to be talking. You do what you can on the field of play and after that it is out of your hands. If UofL goes 12-0 and wins their BCS bowl they are tied for the national title as far as I am concerned regardless of whos shoulders the media hangs that fake banner.
I'd like to see us dominate a lot of these weaker teams on our schedule. There are several teams that we have the ability to beat by 2 TDs or more. We can't control the perception of our SOS, but we can at least show we're heads and shoulders better than these opponents.
This year is a bridge year for 2013. We have no chance of playing for an NCAA title this year, but if we go 12-0 it sets us up for next year, when we would have to go 12-0 again. Obviously it would REALLY help us to win our BCS game. That's the most impt game of the year right there.
If we go 12-0 and win our BCS we are the national champs as far as I am concerned. I dont care who they pretend is the national champs until there is a real playoff where at a minimum all undefeated teams are in it then any team which runs the table equally shares the claim to being the national champ.
I love the confidence and I don't think you can be a great program and not want that to be an eventual goal. But, let's not get ahead of ourselves here on this one.
This year diffinetly sets up 2013
The road starts with the 1st game. Let's start fast and build expectations from there. Get the ball rolling for this year.....and next!
If we don't beat kenSucky by 3 tds ill be dissappointed, we have to show what we have talked about
I want my favorite team and coaches to reach for the National Championship each year...beginning now. Each season is a life on to it's own..no promise of tomorrow, you must live and play in the now.
I do not enjoy always waiting for tomorrow..some people do because the reality of today is too challenging. Actually... for some the dream of "tomorrow" never really comes.
Yes, one must indeed "keep hope alive...for better things to come". I love following the recruiting process and am thrilled to observe when players progress, however, one must live today or not live. Play now, go for it...there is always hope for more good things to come, everyone needs a dream..but, Schnelly would never have beaten the mythical #1 Nebraksa team for a national championship if Miami was willing to settle for next years accolades, UL would not have beaten Alabama in the Fiesta Bowl if they had settled wating for the Media to get aboard the "Train"... compared teams on paper and measured recruits by credentials.
Let's go for it now....#$%^ beware The Mayans may get it right one day.
Louisville by birth, Cardinal by the grace of God!
I love UL football and everything, but the chances of UL winning a National Championship this year are about the same as UK competing for an SEC title. It ain't gonna happen folks.
There is not an entity that would recognize UL as a National Champ even if they go undefeated for the entire year.
Unless the last victory was over the #1 team in the country.
I would like this team to go to a BCS Bowl this year against a team from the Big 12, and beat the snot out of them! Bet we'll we'll get our invite after that.
A 9 win season is a success in my opinion. I just hope the 9 wins gets us the Big East title so we can get to that BCS Bowl game.
If you can't change the people around you....change the people around you.
Sure - maybe the team should just temper their goals bc we are in the Big East. Nice defeatest attitude.
Im pretty sure everyone understands what it will take to get there.
