With all the excitement surrounding the football program, now is the best time to go to the University with ideas on how we can improve the Game Day atmosphere. Card March, Pre-Game, Post-Game, and In-Game traditions can be improved, and I need some help with ideas on how we can improve these areas and more.
PM me or post ideas on here and I will personally see to it that the University takes a look at them.
Already heard great feedback on Green Lot parking pass first come first serve, and the pre-game $1 beer (like Bats games) to help get fans in their seats early.
Charlie Strong, Tom Jurich, and the rest of us die hard fans want that passionate game day atmosphere, so put some thought into it and lets make this a destination job for real. Charlie's decision proved we are heading in that direction, time for us fans to step up and answer his call.
Train is Rollin!
More thunder sticks!
Cardinal "Terrible Towels" in all the seats pregame, waving in the air when the team comes out of the tunnel??
Bring the Cheerleader back that got the stadium going crazy when we played Miami....
Or his clip atleast should be apart of our entrance onto the field from the jumbro tron for every game........
Thunder sticks at EVERY GAME....
Move the band directly next to the crunch zone/student section....
Vouchers or discounts to the Cardinal Authentic store to first "whatever # you wanna make it" # of fans that are in their seats 1hr prior to kickoff....
1st come 1st serve to larg area in front of the tunnel for CARDMARCH
THE SENIORS WOULD NEVER BE DISAPPOINTED AGAIN if the Administration wants to make this happen............

first come first serve parking would probably go a long way towards solving the cards march and in the seats late issues
Speakers in the Green, Red and Platinum lots that played a "Call to The Post" churchill downs style 30-45 minutes before kickoff to alert everyone that it's time to come into the game. Do a similar announcement in the concourses when there are only 5 minutes left before the start of the 2nd half. Have a $1,000 giveaway right before the start of the 2nd half but you have to be in your seat to win it. If that person isn't in their seat it rolls to the next week.

I'm not a fan of reserved parking although I have a spot in the green lot. I'd rather it be first come first served but the only issue I would have is the people that spread out 5-6 spaces limiting the number of people that could actually park. I think this is the reason it went to reserved . Don't know how parking closer to Card march would get people in their seats any earlier. Seems like human nature dictates the closer you are the more time you have to get there , Kind of like when I moved about 2 miles from work and constantly late... Lol
Already sent UofL a recommendation on first come first server reserved (NOT ASSIGNED) parking in the green lot to get that atmosphere back. Would get the early tailgaters in and together. Would improve Card March 20 fold.
They responded, that specific idea is on their forefront of parking committee meetings coming in the spring.
I think they are seeing how assigned parking has hurt a lot of the buzz and atmosphere, most noticeably the Card March.
Speakers in the stadium before speakers in the parking lot. Can't hear a thing. Green lot parking to first come would be nice. As a compromise, make the area where the buses drop off the students and north first come. Behind that could be reserved.
"You're drunk again. No, I'm just exhausted 'cause I've been up all night drinking."
These are good.
Get the SCREEEN to BOOM BOOM when it says something like cheer. Cincy pumped in some magical sound on every down for every one to cheer about 3 years ago or so up at their place on Defense. WVU had some weird first down thing,
but we need EVERYONE TO STAND UP AND CHEER WHILE ON DEFENSE. Place is too soft till a big game and against UNC they fell asleep.
Plus something to get us to shut up on offense.
Just my two cents.
Plus maybe to piggyback off of FRWJ....a giveaway 20 minutes prior to the game for a 1000 bucks. That will get them there and maybe a 2000 dollar give away after.
JUST A THOUGHT!!
Leave it on the field!!
The crazy die hard fans that tailgate 5 hours before the game will be close and they are way more likely to go if they don't have to walk a quarter mile... aka me.
I posted on LSL about the $1 beers as well. That will get people in. I love thirsty Thursday and I get into slugger field as soon as the gates open because of it. (I swear I'm not a drunk)
I think figuring out how to keep people until the end is the trick.
I think it would be cool to have a parade to card march with the band and the Cardinal birds and maybe a group of cheerleaders.
I like all the ideas. To go along with them is maybe some 4th quarter only ideas. I saw some one post having some giveaways or promotional discounts, so lets so some that only happen in the fourth.
When do they stop beer sales? Maybe we could have a 1$ last call
Wow, great feedback guys and great ideas. Keep them coming! Charlie is a very passionate guy, and it's the passionate fans (us) that can make these things happen.
Promos and give aways during the 4th quarter to keep people in the seats is something I would be against. They'd have some clown like J-Bone up there rambling for 60 seconds while the crowd gets antsy. If it was a close game it'd totally kill any momentum or hype in the crowd, and if it was a blow out I'd hate to be the team that needs to pay their fans to stick around.
Every team in the nation that plays their game even remotely close to civilization is going to have issues with people leaving early in blowouts or whatever. I think you just have to deal with that.
I think attention should be given to
1) Rewarding the tailgators. Good food and hospitality is what this city is all about, and so should our football games. I love the idea of tailgators being close to the stadium and even better known as the fans that always welcome traveling fans with a beer and a hotdog. Fixing green lot issues would go a huge way, and maybe get a sponsorship with Krogers and award a "tailgate" of the week a $250 kroger gift card during pregame or halftime.
2) Get fans into their seats for player introductions / warm ups. $1 beers from 45 minutes until 15 minutes before warmups would be a start.
3) Get fans into their seats post half-time. No clue how to do this. I'd say make the councourse loud and unwelcoming 5 minutes before halftime ends.
4) Less awkward promos with dweebs on a microphone rambling about god knows what during key parts of the game. Literally the worst idea in the history of Louisville athletics
I remember when we were in the Old Cardinal Stadium they would hand something out every game! Remember the "clappers" that you use to slap on your legs?
Annoying as hell, but it was something to make noise with...
Like others have mentioned, open the green lot up to 1st come 1st served. That alone should give a considerable boost to the Card March.
It's my understanding that students tailgate at the Fairgrounds. If so, create a student tailgating area somewhere in the green lot. Folks at old Cardinal Stadium are so far away and having the students near the stadium would really help the atmosphere and the Card March.
Sell 2,000 standing room only tix to the party deck. Unless you have those standing room only, suite or club seats, you can't go there.
This is a great thread, because it can help change our atmosphere for the better! Id like to see something unique, just like "cards first down". What about bird chirping gazoos? Could you imagine over 50k chirping fans? Loud enough? Just a thought...
There's a lot of really good ideas on this thread:
- Changing up parking to first come first serve is huge. If donors want to be close, but have no interest in tailgating, build a parking garage.
- Use the sponsors to reward fans who arrive early / stay late.
- University sponsored/student tailgating area. This is a big one. A lot of UofL fans have no idea how the big schools tailgate. A big sponsored tailgate could go a long way to setting the benchmarks. Plus, give people a place and a reason to arrive early and party.
- However it needs to happen, get the people tailgating at the fairgrounds to the PJCS lots.
- SRO tickets for Party Deck / Club-access-only tickets for those who enjoy socializing at the stadium but have no interest in watching the game from their seats.

I definitely agree that the students need to be in the green lot instead of old cardinal stadium. There needs to be more focus on catering to the students as opposed to the rich old people...students tend to be the loudest and most active fans at the games.
Now that we have the coach and conference locked up, no more making this such a social event. Make it about the school and the players instead of just something to do.
And party deck should definitely be standing room only tickets.
I think we should get rid of the TV's underneath the concourse. Now instead of staying underneath watching the start of the 2nd half, no TV's will make them want to get back in their seats.
Someone already suggested this in another thread, but I haven't seen it here yet. Make the green lot first come first serve (yes I know that has already been said in this thread.) But to combat the problem with people just parking/tailgating wherever they want, have ushers to park the vehicles in uniform lines side by side etc. This will eliminate the problem with sporadic/cluster f**k parking.

Great ideas. I didn't read all of them, so sorry if I repeat.
The first come parking in the green lot would have to be coupled with some rule enforcement on one spot per pass. Tough to do.
Improving the sound system must be done. We have the nicest football stadium in college football and the sound sucks.
Better in game coordination. The band over the cheerleaders. Cheerleaders over the band - that crap has got to stop. Of note, I love the band. Don't love the band guy voice.
The pre game cheap beer up to 15 minutes before kickoff is a great idea. Must stop 10 to 15 minutes before kickoff. You would have to couple that with places for people to gather in the concourse. Seems contradictory, but folks would be in the stadium and then head to seats when beer goes full price. COUPLE THAT with $2 dogs or cheap eat options up until 30 minutes before game. You could have a cheap tailgate in the stadium.
Blackout during any non Saturday game - standard. All black uniforms as well.
I guess I endorsed more ideas than came up with original.
Here is a thought: cover the card march with some sort of structure. Do it every damn game rain or shine. Have redshirt kids pass out stuff and toss stuff into the crowd. Not sure what the stuff would be.
The sound system definitely needs worked. I sit in the Crunch Zone and its either way too loud to where it hurts my ears (cant imagine the folks down near the speakers) or I cant hear it. Usually the latter. Perfect placement for these speakers, either on the new scoreboard behind us or on the ends of the Upper Deck and Brown-Williamson Club.
Tailgating used to be a lot better before the stupid assigned parking.
SOMETHING needs to be done to get students in their seats. We have maybe 300 that are there early, the general admission they did this year really helped. but need to get the Frats and Sororities to shut the tailgates down early and get their butts in there. Our student section is an embarrassment more often than not.. but has gotten somewhat better the past few years.
No TV's in concourse. Those socialites need to come back into the stadium.
Deck above Crunch Zone needs to be Standing Room only during games and that is it. Have security enforcing it too. Waayyyyyy too many people take advantage of that place. Make it a before and after game bar or something. I know the after probably isnt an option due to liability issues, but people that want to drink do it at bars... why not give those people a reason to stay in PJCS?
Unfortunately, you can't go strictly first come, first serve on parking because people are rude and inconsiderate. They'll "save" spots, take up more than one, etc. There are some things that probably can be done to improve it, but the other extreme isn't realistic.
The biggest issue though isn't tailgating. Who cares how early people get there? It's the game that really counts. And the issue is people just flat out not using their seats, and just eating them instead of getting rid of them. For one, they need to start tracking ticket usage and building that into CAF points. If it becomes apparent your tickets are going unused, you get flagged. You would have to implement some kind of ticket donation program (if you can't use them, you give them back to the school in advance to re-sell), but that will get tickets used. Again, maybe that's not completely feasible either, but something can be done to an extent.
The issue isn't what goes on outside te stadium, but getting people into the stadium.
