I like to listen to decent discussion of the game and some personal stories of current or former players, but its pretty difficult in this city.
I would say the best show is Valvano's show, he seems to be the only show over the air that actually talks about baseball. But sometimes he goes off on weird tangents about irrelevant things.
Breakdown of shows in the area:
Joe B and Denny: Maybe interesting if you're 80 years old, like fishing, and reminiscing about 1968 state high school bball
Jay Mohr: Wears thin quickly with his act, interrupts a lot trying way too hard to be funny, extremely West Coast/LA oriented topics and pretty ignorant of everything else
Underdogs: 50% infomercial of wherever they visit, the other 50% a dumb lowest common denominator topic about something local and non news worthy
The rest of national shows can be summed up as, where's Dwight Howard going? Give Lebron credit! Omg Kobe drama, etc.
Yuck. Maybe a Sirius XM radio is a good investment.
Who is Dwight Howard?
Or do you mean Da-wight Howard?
Joe B and Denny are great. And I'm not 80.
LiveFree, you didn't include Louisville Sports Live in your local sports talk show rundown. LSL is on weekly on ESPN 680 and is devoted to covering UofL football, basketball, and recruiting. We have Mike on often and also have the finest collection of national guests talking all things UofL athletics.
LSL is awesome! I live in Columbus Ohio and trust me, Louisville Sports Live is better then anything here. I wish LSL was five days a week. But Ethan must agree to one and only one green lot rant a month! LOL
"Strike like lightning. Leave the thunder for those who like a loud roar!"
so says the guy with Johndromo nick...not picking on you but just saying
Infomercials and shows that start, "let's go to the phone lines," only show how crappy our talk radio product are around here. How many times can the Underdogs have a show that compares Slimeapari to Pitino?
ClearChannel should be embarrassed by the programming they continue to put on the air. The local advertisers enable by throwing money at them.
Jason Anderson is pretty good. Local and national topics all mixed in, and all sports. Give him a try in from 3-6.
Earlybirds just as bad.
Local sports radion is terrible....crum and hall are probably the worst radio show ever put together. I don't know how people ever understand a word that hall says.
I simply listen to the national shows. The local shows are local for a reason
I found my guy Jim Rome on 1450am from 12-3. Jim Rome is my national sports guy. His takes are spot on and his interviews are the best. I do listen to a lot of local sports radio. In the morning I'll flip back and forth between ESPN 680 (Deener) and the Early Birds depending on the topic or guest. If you want to here comedy radio listen in to Larry Glover from 6-8pm out of Lessington on 1450am in Louisville. That show always gives me a good laugh on the way home.
test test test
I prefer Jay Mohr over Jim Rome. I used to be a big clone now I'm a Mohrer. LOL. Rome has gotten stodgy and curmudgeonie.
XM. College Sports Radio. Tim Brando is high on the Cards in the NC. He gives CS a lot of love.
I loved Jim Rome when Jay Stew was there...
Agree out shows are awful(outside of LSL) but the national shows, when its not football season, are atrocious. I couldn't care less about where Dwight Howard goes, MLB, or NBA. At all.
I use apps like Tune in and others to listen to other markets local guys, especially in the south, because they talk college footballl pretty much year round.
