With Pitino basically saying Dieng is gone...

  • Who starts at center next year? Zach or will he move Harrell there? will Agau have a chance to compete for that position or will Mathaing claim it? thoughts?

  • I think Dieng is back

There will have to be a big turnaround in Price for him to log a lot of minutes. That's disappointing to me. He has the talent, but just hasn't hit the level where he can produce for any stretch at all. I"m guessing that spot will be wide open and the player who is the nastiest on defense and rebounds the ball will get the PT.

  • I'm interested in Mangok's development.

And who said Gorgy was gone?

Unless he gets injured, there is basically zero chance that he comes back. I wish that wasn't the case, but he wants to go (despite what he's said publicly).

  • Personally, IF Gorgui leaves, I think it will be a mix of Mangok and Montrezl at the 5 spot.

  • I think personally he should leave if he can get first round. Either way, he needs to go to camp so he can see what he is up against. This draft is down compared to next year, however he will have Zeller to compete against as well as a few other bigs.

  • Gorgui is 23 years old and has to leave if he's projected first round. His age is working against him at this point. He should have his degree done early so he will achieve that goal which is foremost for him and his father.

  • Mathiang is our center next year. SVT will back him up.

    Lineup will look like this:

    Chris Jones
    Russ Smith
    Mangok Mathiang
    Montrezl Harrell
    Wayne Blackshear

    off the bench

Rozier-might be starting by the end of the season
    Ware
    Hancock
    Gill
    SVT
    Agau

Couldn't disagree more. Behanan will be back as soon as he gets feed back from all the GM's that he is 2nd rounder and in some cases not even listed in some mock drafts. Only way Behanan goes pro is if he just hates it here and can't wait to leave. Behanan needs more time to develop his game.
Here's my projected line up next year.
PG- Chris Jones, Terry Rozier: I think its a toss up who gets the starting nod
SG- Russ Smith, Kevin Ware, Anton Gill: Russ still may go pro if he is a first rounder but i lean more towards him staying.
    SF- Wayne Blackshear, Luke Hancock
PF- Chane Behanan, Montrezl Harrell, Akoy Agua: Chane WILL be back next season. Akoy is way under valued won't be an impact player but a solid role player.
C- Mango Mathiang, SVT, Zach Price: Harrell will see some minutes at the 5. Mango will surprise a lot of people next year. Gorgui is as good as gone.

And for all the people who believe in everything Pitino says like the fact Behanan, Russ, and Dieng all go pro even in this worst case scenario Louisville will still have one hell of a team next year.

  • Isn't SVT a senior this year? Or did he get a RS?

  • Why is everybody so sure Dieng is graduating in 3 years? That's not exactly easy for a college athlete that spends so much time playing basketball. If he hasn't graduated, I don't see him going.

He should be able to be a 5th year senior next year due to his injuries. Last year a RS year.

    cardsguy

  • Really? You think Pitino said Dieng is gone? No that is not what Pitino said. Pitino is urging Dieng to test the waters in the draft, much like he is urging Russ Smith and Chane Behanan to do the same. Dieng is the only player Pitino is saying SHOULD actually declare for the draft early, especially if he is a first rounder. Pitino wants Gorgui to declare because it would be in Gorgui's best personal interest. That shows you what kind of coach Pitino is, that he cares for what's right for Gorgui and not just what he wants for his team.

With that being said, nobody has confirmed whether Gorgui will stay or go. Part of me wants to believe he'll stay, but most of me thinks he's ready to go, and he will graduate over the summer or in the fall after he declares for the draft and is a first rounder. I don't want to see him go, I love Gorgui being part of the team, but people shouldn't want him to stay for selfish reasons.

With that, if Gorgui is gone, SVT stays, and he will split time with Mangok. That is unless Price really improves in the off season. Then you will see more or Price too.

Mangok will be our center. I doubt SVT is given another year. Pitino needs the roster space.

4 guys coming in. 4 guys leaving if Gorgui leaves. Peyton, Marra, Nunez and Gorgs.

  • Why is everyone convinced that Mango is better than Agau? I'm not saying he isn't. I just can't imagine what anyone is basing that on.

  • If Gorgui keeps playing like he has lately he will be gone. No real idea who will start. Harrell would have the upper hand unless Mangok is just really good.

I'm not saying he is but Agau is a 4 and Mango is a 5

It's like saying "why do you think Gorgui is better than Chane"...it's no comparison because they play different positions. Mangok is a center and Akoy is more of a 4. Akoy is 6-8/6-9, Mangok is closer to 6-10/6-11.

  • I think Agau will be a 5 for us. He doesn't have the foot speed that we typically want in our 4's and with his shot blocking and ability to pass the ball from the high post I think he fits well as a 5 for us.

    MATT3030

  • Agau no question will be a 5. If you've paid any attention to where Pitino plays his guys that much is crystal clear. He will know the 4 spot I'm sure and maybe even play there in a pinch, but he's a 5.

The advantage Mango has over Agau is that he's here practicing for a year. The reason Pitino took him is that he thought after a redshirt year here that Mango would be as good as almost any of the high school centers in the 2013 class.
