Is Montrezl better than Chane?

I think he is. But Chane isn't the type of guy you want to pull from the starting line up. Not that starting matters but I don't think he would take it well like Russ does. We need both and I believe starting Chane is better for the team as a whole. Just think Harrell is the better player.

I'm beginning to agree with that. Remember when Whitehead used to have the mindset that every missed shot was supposed to be a ball he got his hands on? If Chane had that attitude, he'd average 10 boards a game easily.

Trez loads up the stats, and I am curious why he isn't playing more minutes.

Maybe he can't defend the 3 ball from the wing in a zone well, not sure. He is a little slow footed.

He is weak in defensive rebounding too, which can hurt.

I have been tracking player stats for the last 18 games and run them through some calcs to get a "net positive production per minute played", and the answer in all scenarios (Big Games, OOC, Conference play) is Chane always finishes slightly ahead of him in total net production.

Conference play rankings: Gorgui #1, Chane #2, Harrell #3, Smith #4

So - to me, the answer is this.

In the Final 6 minutes of game.... 1. If you have the lead, play them both: GD, CB, MH. 2. If you are down and need the 3 ball: play GD, CB, and WB/LH

No, he is not slow footed. Watch him.

  • Ok, you ready for this ? I think Trez may be the 2nd best on our team right now in terms of NBA potential, behind GD.

I think he is ahead of CB in talent, intangibles (which you can not teach) like hustle, aggressiveness, hands, wing span (7'2" wingspan), instinct around the ball.

The thing is, if Harrell had the same minutes as CB, here is what his stats would look like, if you extrapolate and normalize for same minutes.

Chane shot 62.5%, Trez shot 60%
    FT - 8 pts
    RB - CB - 6; MH - 15 RB
    Blocks - , CB - 0; MH - 3
    Steals/Assists - CB - 2; MH - 2
    Points - CB - 12 pts; MH - 24
    TO - CB - 3; MH - 2

One last thing, stats don't show how many easy close shots are missed at point blank range. CB misses 3-4 of those easy ones every game because he puts the ball on the floor. MH does not do that. When he gets it within 5-10', he flushes it.

It is no comparison for me. MH should be starting.

Where in the world did you get those stats? You might want to check them again.

  • If Trez had those stats in practice, you don't think CRP would have him starting over Chane? Come on now.

Montrezl will be an awesome college PF. with massive potential to make the league.biggrin

Chane is an awesome college PF. with great potential to make the league if he remains hard-working and consistant.(i.e. chuck hayes)clap
But both are great to have and an amazing luxury.
