Harrison twins to announce this Thursday?

  • FYI, Maryland has an in home visit scheduled with the Harrisons tomorrow. Apparently the visit was scheduled before they moved their announce date.

  • Maryland is going to go into the in house with an Under Armor contract for when they leave after the basketball season is over. Just like Cal did with Teague.

But as far as the Harrisons.... they are one and done and it doesn't matter which school they go to. The same for guys like J. Parker, Randle, and Wiggins. Going to UK will not make them any more or less one and done.

You guys don't really get it. While what you are saying is true, it does matter where they go. Its about hype. UK is hyped to all hell right now.

Example: Lance Stephenson was a one and done no matter where he went. However, if he went to UK and won big, it would have been a lot different for him than going to Cincy and flaming out in the first round or whatever. He would have gotten hype on draft night with "record breaking", and would have gotten hype throughout the season. More hype/media attention means more endorsements/money and even possibly a higher draft choice.

So while what you are saying is absolutely true, where they choose to go does matter. It matters a lot.

And I'm pretty sure Teague didn't sign with Nike lol

No, but his scrub brother did close to the time he announced for UK.

  • Those guys are ridiculously good. I really hope they don't end up in blue...I don't care if Maryland buys them or not.

    Cory1984

  • Maybe I missed something but I specifically remember hearing from Matt Jones that they would not be at MM.

I do agree that they do have to win wherever they go. But that's even true for UK. If UK's last three teams flamed out in the first round then their kids would not have been drafted as high, and some of them would have had to stay a second year. We'll see this year if the UK hype gets these kids through, because this year has the potential to be Cal's worst year since arriving at UK.

But if we are comparing UK to Maryland... Maryland has brought in quite a bit of talent lately. Like I said before, there is some interesting recruiting going on there. The twins will likely be successful if they go there. The Harrison's themselves have already been hyped up and if they have a successful season then I think Maryland can give the twins just as much as UK can.

I saw after I posted the OP that scout announced that the twins were going to MM but the twins' father has stated that they had never planned on attending UK's or anyone elses MM and that they didn't know where scout got the info from.

  • Interesting that there high school uniforms are made by Under Armor lol. I say they end up at sUcK but I am pulling for Maryland biggrin

    Cards78

  • Maryland will be a Final 4 contender if they get those guys. They are that good, plus other good players will follow them should they commit to Maryland.

  • Harrison Sr., said that until September even the college coaches courting his sons had to go through dad first. One exception: Chris Hightower, in charge of basketball marketing at Under Armour.

"They text him, 'Hey, Chris, appreciate what you sent us, thanks a lot. Hey, Chris, do you have a black hoodie? Does Under Armour make this or that?' He will text them, 'Great game I saw on TV.' "

"Chris Hightower is a member of the team of Under Armour employees who service and support the University of Maryland all-sports apparel contract," the Maryland athletics department said in a statement.

Under Armour could be key as Harrison twins choose Kentucky or Maryland | The Jackson Sun | jacksonsun.com

Aaron and Andrew Harrison have a long relationship with Under Armour, which could guide them to Maryland over Kentucky.

  • Weird that Baylor isn't also in that mix since they are from TX yet SMU with Larry Brown was one of the schools of interest

Baylor is Adidas. It's between Nike and Under Armour...it's so weird saying that.

  • The "they're only allowed to talk to the UA guy" is such a smokescreen it isn't even funny. This one is wrapped up for Cow/WWW/Nike. Evidently has been for a long time now....

    A smokescreen for who?

    That makes no sense whatsoever.

So this under armour guy sends these kids stuff? Is that what I'm getting out of that?

Actually it kind of does. He's basically saying that Mr. Harrison is making these statements knowing full well that his sons are committing to UK. He's hiding the cheating at UK by drawing attention to the cheating at Maryland. That would actually make some sense as to why he would be so blatant about it.

But he was quoted as saying this by someone else. He later said "“Not one coach from anywhere has offered me anything. Kevin Plank has not called me about Under Armour and Maryland.”

So maybe it is a smokescreen, or maybe he realized that he said something stupid.

  • I know on some of the Maryland boards , they think a lot of this was put out by Nike/UK to try to make UA look bad. Apparently, Maryland used to be a Nike school and when they announced they were switching to Under Armor, they couldn't get Nike to hardly supply them with gear in the last year of their contract. Count me in as one that definitely NEVER wants to have anything to do with Nike.

That article almost makes it seem like Coach Cheater gets players on sheer recruiting prowess and less on his Nike/William Wesley connections. Damn I would love to see those kids go to Maryland and beat sUcK at their own game. I never want to see us cheat, but it doesn't hurt my feelings to see Kentucky lose out on kids for the same reasons that they get kids.

Odd how he was so mediocre at Memphis State for years until suddenly befriended WWW and Nike. It's almost as if they are as much to credit for his "recruiting prowess" as he is. headslap

You would think someone who has had not one but two Final Fours stripped would have a worse reputation. Yet we still have the media saying he and Pitino are the only coaches to take three different programs to the Final Four, etc.

yep, Wes helped 'steer' Rose, CDR, Evans etc to Memphis and was steering Walls and Cousin there also before Cal bolted to UK when it was known way beforehand that Memphis would vacate their Final Four. Cal was nowhere on the map as a recruiter until he received help. Now suddenly he pulls 4 straight #1 recruiting classes at UK which has never been done by any coach at any program: football or basketball.

  • Shoe companies have long built their brands by getting their gear on the feet of elite players, often when they are very young. There's nothing inherently nefarious about the practice. But these deals always lead to suspicion. Here's CBS hoops columnist Gary Parrish:

"The unconfirmed stories I could tell you about moves one shoe-company executive or another have pulled or tried to pull would blow your already cynical mind, and they usually begin with Nike, Adidas, Reebok or, in this case, Under Armour deciding to fund some team or program featuring elite talents. The idea is to create an advantage with money, build and nurture a relationship with the principal parties and hope it all pays off when the time comes for those elite talents to pick a school."

Under Armour's tie to Harrison twins creates needed buzz

By sponsoring the Harrison twins' AAU team, Under Armour has become the talk of college basketball
