Tell me one large city in the country that doesn't have it's poor areas. Most out here in the state that slam Louisville like that have never been to any other large cities. And that UK fan had it sort of right. I am a strong U of L fan partially because I can't stand UK fans. But originally, the love of U of L was because of Darrell Griffith and Denny Crum. The hate for UK is because of the fans and their cheating program.
A larger question might ask why has this reappeared as an issue?
I mean, all this could have and should have been hashed out decades ago. Obviously, Louisville has "caught up" with our fabulously gifted brethren - certainly far more so than any of their conference mates. This old timey urge for dominance ignores recent ratings whereas Louisville was #6 in the world, lol, while they were #whatever - I honestly don't know, but assume 3 or 2. Let's ask ourselves what is pretentious or inappropriate for UofL to feel somewhere very close to even in every respect - even historically?
Someone pushing this bullcrap line of "dominance" - UK fans' most horrid tendency - needs to curl up and enjoy the dam sport. Tough teabags, you aren't 'dominant'. Doesn't that just break your heart?
As far as the ignoramous's like tumuck - a famously sadly stupid man - trying to figure out how one becomes a UofL fan, he inadvertantly supplies a month's worth of comedy every time he stretches that scrawny neck to look over the fence.

"There is an eloquence in true enthusiasm."
Edgar Allen Poe
It is simply ignorance.
If all of Louisville IS the ghetto then all of Kentucky outside of Jefferson County IS a trailer perched on the side of the hill inhabited by SSI drawing members with a meth lab up on the hill above said trailer.
cedar: I love Louisville! It is actually the only real city in Kentucky. It is where the majority of our best and brightest live and work.
Hometown friend: Loooouuuuvull is a gayetto!
cedar: You've never been past Pikeville.
Hometown friend: I went and watched the Cayuts back when Puteeener was the coach.
cedar: That was Lexington.
Hometown friend: mumble, mumble, mumble.....Go Cayuts!
(I love my hometown peeps God bless 'em!)
The only thing worse than a UK fan is anyone who obsesses about what a UK fan thinks.
That's a truly sad thing.
You're 100% spot on. The majority of their fans are exactly like that. The outcome of their basketball actually dictates their quality of life to some degree.
GMAN316: Jameis Winston isn't Jeff Driskel and Jimbo Fisher isn't Mushchump. FSU wins easily.
grimm, I must say in defense of you guys, I heard there was a sharp downturn in dog injuries and trips to the vet this past season. I felt sorry for many dogs owned by UK fans during the Gillispie fiasco.

All you have to do is get on this board to see how jealous Cards fans on here are. Every other post is about ukay.

there's definitely an unhealthy obsession with uk shown by a lot of card fans, but it isn't due to jealousy. uk fans....and you....can't seem to comprehend this.

"He was a cruel man, but fair."
I would argue the opposite. My father was a die-hard card fan all his life and he told me on mutliple occassions that that he only went to the doctor, and had dialysis for 7 years so that he could live to see UofL win another championship. One of the last things he told me was that he regretted ever starting dialysis (meaning he would have died 7 years before), because one of his days was saturday, and he had missed so many UofL football games that "it wasn't even worth it." he was serious...and he wasn't unique, or even rare.
Every fan base has its crazies. the more dedicated and fanatical the fan base, the more crazies. And the LARGER the fan base, the more crazies. We have a very fanatical fan base.
The one constant I've learned from the past few decades of following the cards is that the biggest difference betweem UofL fans and living next to UK fans is what color they wear. The two fan bases are far more alike than different. I know that's not a popular sentiment 3 days before our game against them, but it's true.
So with that being said, let's put a hurtin' on them Sunday.
That is true. I know quite a few "transplants" that did not grow up here or attend school here that now are UofL fans. Two of the gentlemen I'll be watching the game with Sunday are like that. One is from Minnesota and one from Iowa.
They were big sports fans before life and careers brought them to Louisville and they latched on to the local team that's fun to watch.
However, I've never met a transplant that latched onto UK. Probably because it would be so distasteful to a real sports fan. No, that's not a joke. Louisville is easy to like. Kentucky is just as easy to dislike.
UK is an historically corrupt basketball program and a joke of a football program that just shows up to cash the SEC checks. That's the kind of abomination that you have to be born-into to like. You don't acquire a taste for that otherwise.
so 2 gentlemen make up the majority?
These kinds of threads always pop up just before the football beatdown. Its just a circle jerk. Everybody strokes each other to ease the painful thought of sinking farther behind in the modern series and eventually the inevitable...which is falling behind the all time series. In the sporting world...football is king. It pays the bills. And coach Strong has it back to business as usual faster than they anticipated. They talk about us because we demand the spotlight. Think about it. You ever see them cracking on Western or Eastern? No, because they are irrelevant in the big picture. They cant stand the fact that they are in our football shadow. I mean 14 point underdogs...in Strongs THIRD year? What a backhanded bitch smack that must be.
"UL has a good but note elite program" That shows you how stupid they are. I guess top 7-8 is not elite.
LOL, UK fans were - and still are - besides themselves in their attempts to denigrate the Petrino and John L Eras. Our rankings were "based on crappy competition", etc......meanwhile our 2004 team had 20 future NFL ballplayers on it.
That's compelling, lol. Inasmuch as they've never been there themselves, it speaks volumes as to their style and the budding obsession with us as they continue their seasonal fall to the rails, acting as Homecoming sacrifices on such a completely consistent basis in their conference, which hates them and which they pimp when convenient.

Now lets hear the common rebuttal that "Black poverty" is a drain on society, while "White poverty" is somehow based in noble terms of loyality and family. Of course this all comes from UK fans warped sense of a rural Kentucky where simple people choose to live a simple life (funded by our tax dollars and fueled by addiction). The sad fact is that rural poverty and urban poverty have the same root causes; lack of education, lack of job opportunities, single parent homes, addiction, culture of dependence, etc...
Despite what crap UK fans try to spew to "defend their brothers" as Dr. King often stated, "There is no nobility in poverty."
I was having a discussion this morning about why UK football stays down, not being demeaning whatsoever. I just stated if they spent money on football, they would be a lot more competitive. Then this idiot I wasn't even speaking to chimes in with "I'd rather be dominant in one sport than just OK in two."
And I simply replied, "you really think we're just 'OK' in basketball?"
Nicely put, 714. Out of 320 Division 1 basketball programs, 314 are looking up at us.
I have not heard that common rebuttal. What exactly does it consist of?
