Wiltjer is leaving the program, likely to Gonzaga (joining Angel Nunez). I think with them being more talented this year, he would've had a good year shooting open triples. It also leaves them thinner in terms of depth, so they are not as able to cover any potential injury.
Don't blame him....I know he probably originally planned on being there one year, but with him being from a very progressive city like Portland, it had to be culture shock to go to a city like Lexington.
If anything this helps their title chances. He was the 4th best player on a NIT team and would be about the 8th or 9th best player on this team. Besides, he was only mediocre at doing what he was best at doing (36% three's). They are already deep at his position so I really don't see this hurting them at all.

you don't see losing leadership as a hit?
K. Wiltjer is another example of a player who never improved under Coach Calipari. He came in as a McD AA but was never considered a one and done.
A simple question: is your butt jealous of the amount crap coming from your mouth?
They aren't going to win the championship anyway. He might as well get the minutes.
40-0. That must mean the number signed verses the number who graduate. Well done UK. That program is the laughing stock of the entire country.
Barring injuries, this doesnt affect them much at all. No, i dont think you're getting much leadership from your 9th or 10th guy.
He was their fifth frontcourt player about the same as price was for us though he had proven himself far more than price had.
No, talent wise & minutes wise, he may not have meant a whole lot next season; but you can't underestimate what having a 3-year guy can do to help a team. In particular a program that simply hasn't had many 3-4 year guys w/ significant playing time since Cal's arrival. There is going to be a lot of young talent w/ very little quality experience at the college level.
Just think about how many of their top 8 guys will have actual NCAA tourney experience next season.
BCS win, Women's Final 4/National runner-up, Men's Final 4/National title, trip to College World Series. Excellence like no other before.
He averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds. This loss does hurt...mostly their depth....but it does hurt.
$ec's sixth man of the year cut at uk.. What's that say about the $ec?
Teams are going to pack it in against them until they prove they can shoot? The question is....can they?
FYI- quick google search
Andrew Harrison shot 29% from 3 senior year HS
Aaron Harrison shot 32%.
Move them back a foot, they definetly aren't gonna be shooting much better. Their fans are underestimating Kyles value.
Wrong. This will have some effect. He was a minute-getter on an NCAA Championship team. Slimeadouchebag's best teams have leadership from upper classmen.
YOu guys are sick if you think this isn't going to affect them early on. Kyle was a 3rd year guy who has game experience and leadership. He won't dominate a game but he can come off the bench and stroke a couple of long balls to get his team jump started.
They just lost some valuable experience and someone who can shoot them back into a game.
^^^What he said^^^
I think it's a bit off to assume anyone that is an upperclassman is automatically going to be a team leader. The guy played small and doesn't project any kind of an impressive aura. I think if he had stayed he still wouldn't have been a leader and UK would face the same leadership vacuum they face now.
They just got a lot easier to guard.
Wiltjer would've looked a lot better this year because he would have a more talented team around him ala 2011-2012. Last year he was actually a focus for other teams when in the game. UK has no other really proven outside shooter, although they expect James Young to help. This isn't crippling to them, but I promise you Cal wanted him to stay and isn't thrilled.
I would think that Wiltjer at least attended a few classes. I don't know how UK keeps the bball team eligible
with such poor grades and with constantly losing players mid semester. This is something that supposedly
hurts your team eligibility very much.
I hope it all comes out next season. I look for Calipayme to head to greener pastures soon.
^^^That's what I was thinking; how the hell are they keeping their APR high enough without anybody graduating?
.... It's not safe! Get on the train or get out the way!
Yep. They may have some scorers, but they don't have proven shooters (time will tell I guess). I said on the smack board that they would not have won in 2012 without him. If teams could focus their attention on him then he was nothing (2013) but if they had to guard everybody then Wiltjer was a threat (2012). He could have been that same threat in 2014.
They missed out big on Wiggins and now Wiltjer is leaving. I still think we are the better team, with or without UK having those guys, but this is a big hit to UK - despite their fans downplaying it.
Young, Randle, the twins all can shoot the 3..UK can shoot boys
That's a good question.
This will be a big hit to their GPA if nothing more. When we have players transfer they say Pitino ran them off. However, when they have players transfer they say it's for more playing time or to be near home, etc. The double standard continues. I wish the kid luck; he will be better off getting away from that sesspool.
I believe these twins we keep hearing about only shoot about 30% from the HS line.
