"I'm told there's a great chance that Russ Smith returns to Louisville next season. Not finalized, but best odds I've heard yet."

I tend to believe this. If not, Russ missed out on thousands of dollars in autograph sessions the past two weeks.
Yeah I thought about this also. It would make no sense if he was leaning heavily towards leaving he wouldnt have taken advantage of this.
Yeah I think that if a guy is going pro, they usually announce right after the tourney is over. The fact that he hasn't shows that he is by no means sure of this and I think he'll hopefully come back. Obviously that is wishful thinking. Has Dieng declared? At 23 years old I think he ought to go. Is he really going to improve so much in another year at U of L to drastically improve his draft stock?
Well, since Gorgei was all over town this past weekend signing autographs for money, I think he would be ineligible even he wanted to return . . .

he'll apparently announce Wednesday.
I'm not going to give it the caGdawg jinx, but IF....IF Russel comes back.....there is a pretty strong possibility of another run...

A lot of people have mighty high expectations. Even if Russ comes back, losing one of the best shot blocker, and passing centers and one of the point guards in the country, 40 percent of you starting line up and all of that experience. Isn't going to hurt? 2 years ago if we lost Gorgei we lost the game. I won't think we have a chance till I see who can defend the rim like Gorgei. A big part of our defense is that the guards can gamble because we have a center that will make up for any mistakes. I think alot of STV and Harrell but they are not Deing and no where close. To many things have to go the right way to make a final four let a lone a Nat Championship. I will have to research how many teams have gone to 3 straight final fours.
3 teams since the tourney expanded to 64 have made 3 straight final fours, Mich St, Duke, and UCLA in 28 years.

Umm, UK did it as well. 96, 97, 98...
Ravencard said he can't see Russ Smith coming back next year. I like our chances.
Sorry looked it up on wiki and thats what it said guess im not up on my sUK history like you are.
In regards to guard play I believe Louisville's backcourt will be just as strong, if not stronger than last year. You have a five-star recruit coming in with Terry Rozier and the guy can flat out score - he won't be out there swimming on his own in ocean waters as he'll have Smith (if he comes back) and Ware to provide the leadership during rough spurts. From some sources, Chris Jones is actually better than Rozier-. He is also a scorer and a tenacious defender and a flat out winner. His coach said he was one of the best jucos he's seen in a decade. Add this with Gill coming in and the newcomers will be the remedy for the loss of Siva. Also, Ware seems to be progressing faster than we thought in his rehab and his play in the last two months was tremendous. I went and rewatched the Syracuse game in the BE tournament and he was playing his best basketball and I expect he'll carry that over until next season.
I believe UL's front line is arguably the best in the nation. Harrell's game will only get better. His game against Syracuse also surprised me. SVT is a great backup at the 5. Behanan and Blackshear will continue to improve their skills and we might get a breakout year from Blackshear the likes we haven't seen since his Chicago days. And we have the final four mvp in Hancock. From all indications, Mangok is NOT a project. He can run the floor and he has a nice jump shot. He'll need to bulk up a bit but he's around 6'10 and is a good weak side shot blocker...exactly we need in Dieng's departure.
We have some good role players in Henderson and Agau. If we get anything from Zach Price this year it will be icing on the cake.
I have high expectations from everything I just listed. .
This post makes absolutely no sense. But that's besides the point.
I hope that Russ does come back. But I do believe that we should temper our expectations. Losing gorgs and siva is a huge. We are going to be a completely different team next season, but if we can maintain the same style defense then we should be really good again. Russ would really help that!
